Speech Technology

In computing, speech technology is the method of recognizing, analyzing, and understanding spoken words. Sounds are typically matched to patterns stored in a library by inputting their information and matching it to the stored data.

How does speech technology work?

Signal processing and machine learning are key concepts in speech technology. Various features of speech, such as speaker characteristics, background noise, and frequency, can be extracted using signal processing. In addition, these listening devices utilize machine learning methods to recognize and analyze speech signals in order to come up with a response.

Types of speech technology

Speech recognition is the process of converting sounds spoken aloud into readable text by a machine or program. For example Alexa and Cortana.

Speech verification provides hands-free control of devices and equipment (particularly beneficial to disabled individuals), inputs to automatic translation, and creates dictation that can be printed.

Interactive voice response (IVR) gives incoming callers access to pre recorded messages through a voice-response system, rather than having to speak to an agent,

Simulating human speech with a computer is called speech synthesis. In mobile applications such as voice-enabled e-mail and unified messaging, it allows for the translation of written information into audio to be more convenient.

A speech analytics practice involves analyzing voice recordings and live customer calls monitored by customer service centers using speech recognition software to provide useful information and quality assurance

Assistive technology such as text-to-speech (TTS) reads digital text aloud. It's sometimes called “read aloud” technology. With TTS, computer words or other digital files can be turned into audio.

What are use cases for speech technology?

Artificial intelligence tools are becoming more prevalent in most businesses, which makes speech technology useful in many sectors. These include law, healthcare, security, finance, enterprise, and personal use.

Benefits of speech technology

As a result of speech technology, businesses can enjoy many advantages, including easier communication - no more illegible handwriting, and quick turnaround of documents, as well as increased efficiency and fewer paperwork. Tasks will be simplified and streamlined with increased efficiency, as well as multitasking and secure access to information.
